SmartPlant Electrical webinar now available for downloading

The recording of “SmartPlant Electrical Technical Update” is now available for downloading. The webinar, originally presented on November 18, consisted of a live demo of some of the exciting, existing functionalities, and new functionalities offered by the upcoming SmartPlant Electrical service pack 3 release:

• The bi-directional ETAP interface - see how the electrical network is designed in ETAP or SPEL, and transferred to the other tool. This allows the user to continue and complement the electrical network, with no data retype, no inconsistency, and produce the final single line diagram.

• Block diagrams - see how to design electrical circuitry using the graphical cable block diagram as the design front end. Also see some new features of cable block diagrams that will be available in the coming service pack 3.

Sinopec Corp. Grows Quickly to Become a Global Leader

China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (Sinopec Corp.), Asia’s largest oil refiner, supplies 80 percent of China’s fuel needs. Headquartered in Beijing, the integrated energy and chemical company is listed on domestic and international stock exchanges. It ranked ninth in the 2009 Fortune Global 500, becoming the first Chinese corporation to make the top 10.

Sinopec is China’s largest producer and supplier of refined oil products (including gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, etc.) and major petrochemical products (including synthetic resin, synthetic fiber monomers and polymers, synthetic fiber and rubber, chemical fertilizer, and petrochemical intermediates). It is also China’s second largest crude oil producer.

Westinghouse Appoints Dr. Rita Bowser as Vice President of UK AP1000 Projects

Rita Bowser, currently the company’s regional vice president of South Africa, has been named vice president of Westinghouse’s UK AP1000 Projects division. In her new role, Bowser will oversee the AP1000 program in the U.K., as well as other AP1000 projects throughout the E.U. as opportunities are developed.

Westinghouse offers a wide range of nuclear plant products and services to utilities around the world, including fuel, spent fuel management, service and maintenance, instrumentation and control, and advanced nuclear plant designs. Westinghouse supplied the world's first commercial nuclear power plant in 1957, and has designed the world's largest installed base of operating nuclear power plants.

Fabricom Suez Improves Data Quality with SmartPlant Foundation

Fabricom Suez, a leading supplier of maintenance and modification services to the oil and gas industry, selected Intergraph’s SmartPlant Foundation to more accurately manage and reuse engineering design data throughout the life cycle of its projects.

Prior to implementing SmartPlant Foundation, Fabricom experienced a number of challenges to tracking engineering data in spreadsheets, especially as its projects continued to grow. Fabricom chose SmartPlant Foundation to provide a database solution that provides flexibility, efficiency, and better quality data management.

The company integrated SmartPlant Foundation with ProArc, its existing document management system. This enables Fabricom to make a tag-to-document relationship – keeping track of all the documents produced for each information tag and vice versa.

In its recently completed pilot project, Fabricom has seen marked improvements in the quality of the data and the working environment. Every discipline is now able to find, view, and edit information in one central place. In the future, the company plans to develop a comprehensive approach to meeting its enterprise engineering needs by modularly integrating SmartPlant Foundation with other solutions from the SmartPlant Enterprise software suite, including SmartPlant Instrumentation, SmartPlant Electrical, and SmartPlant P&ID.

C&I Engineering choose to implement SmartPlant 3D and SmartPlant Review

By transitioning from PDS to SmartPlant 3D and SmartPlant Review C&I Engineering speeds time to productivity.  

Projects designed using SmartPlant 3D have resulted in a very low percentage of rework and a higher degree of accuracy.  Over time, we expect our efficiencies to increase drastically.

Plus, global workshare enables us to replicate our database to other sites or field offices and leverage our staff in field offices.  This helps us accomplish more work with the same amount of resources.

SmartMarine 3D boosts efficiency for COSCO Shipyard Group

With more than 10 successfully implemented projects, SmartMarine 3D has become an essential part of COSCO Shipyard Group (CSG).

CSG originally focused on ship conversion and repair which required limited design performed using AutoCAD or only hand-drawn sketches. 

In 2006, CSG expanded its business to include new ship and offshore building design and construction.  A large number or experienced shipbuilders, as well as new graduates, were hired to staff a new CSG Technical Center (CSG TC).

For new ship and offshore design and construction,  the traditional usage of AutoCAD was obviously not enough. 

This is where the benefits of Intergraph's SmartMarine 3D became apparent:

ABB Awarded US$54M Contract in South Africa to Improve Power Plant Efficiency

 

South African utility Eskom awarded ABB a $54M contract to supply electrical and automation solutions for three of its largest power plants, each with a 4,000-MW capacity. With the goal of improving reliability and energy efficiency, ABB will oversee the design, installation, and commissioning of the electrical and automation equipment. The turnkey contractor will also conduct a performance analysis and refurbishment of the plant’s motors.

 

Eskom is responsible for the generation, transmission, and distribution of almost 95 percent of South Africa's electricity. South Africa alone accounts for about three-fifths of all the power consumed on the African continent.

 

ABB is a global leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. Intergraph has collaborated with ABB in the past on several power projects.

Saipem is in the news with two new offshore contract wins

Your Oil and Gas News reports that Saipem has been awarded two new offshore contracts in South East Asia worth US$450 million. 

In Papua New Guinea, Saipem has been awarded by Esso Highlands Limited, an ExxonMobil company, the contract for the PNG LNG Offshore Pipeline Project EPC2. The scope of work will consist of the engineering, transportation and installation of a 407 kilometres-long 34” gas sealine, connecting the Omati River landfall point, on the southern coast of Papua New Guinea, to the onshore point located near the capital town of Port Moresby, on the southeastern coast of the Country, where a new LNG plant will be located.

In Vietnam, Saipem has been awarded the contract for the Chim Sao Platform and Pipelines Project by PTSC Mechanical and Construction. The contract, assigned in the framework of the development of Block 12W by Premier Oil Vietnam Offshore, encompasses the transportation and installation of one wellhead platform and of subsea pipelines, umbilical and PLEMs (pipelines end manifolds), in addition to the detailed engineering for infield pipelines.
