BBA, an independent Canadian consulting engineering firm active in the international energy and mining and metals sectors, has completed the design of its first project for Consolidated Thompson, the Bloom Lake project in Northern Quebec, with Intergraph’s SmartPlant 3D design solution.
BBA chose SmartPlant 3D because it is well-suited for the specific challenges related to metals and mining projects – large and complex equipment and very mining-oriented specifications for components. The software’s rule-based design and specification-driven capabilities provide true discipline integration into a single 3D modeling environment, minimizing rework for changes and ensuring consistency across designs.
"We are pleased with the results that we have achieved so far with SmartPlant 3D, and are excited about moving forward with it on future projects," said Steeve Fiset, president and CEO of BBA. "By adapting SmartPlant 3D to the mining industry, we add to our high value engineering a very efficient design capacity and provide our customers with a timely and cost-effective project execution with an extremely low re-work level at site."
Gerhard Sallinger, Intergraph Process, Power and Marine president, said, “BBA demonstrates how SmartPlant 3D can benefit companies of all sizes and in all industries to be more competitive using this next-generation technology. And as SmartPlant 3D becomes the industry-standard for large EPC and owner operators, it gives smaller and midsize companies the opportunity to be on the same footing with their larger competitors.”
The ARC Advisory Group in its PET Worldwide Outlook Market Analysis and Forecast through 2013 ranked Intergraph the No. 1 overall worldwide leader in engineering design 3D software and process engineering tools (PET) and for key industries, including metals and mining.
