Intergraph 2010 is in full swing, with the majority of Process, Power & Marine sessions beginning today. One of the highlights was the awarding of the Platinum Pipe automation contest.

Samsung Heavy Industries won first prize for its entry that automatically places a ship's accommodation area into a SmartMarine 3D model. This tool automatically adds 3D equipment, furniture, and joiner wall panel. The greatness of the automation is that it allows SHI to finish the joiner plan quickly and pass the 3D model to other disciplines. The automation was submitted by Mi Ja Kwak.

Second place was awarded to Darren Litherland of Grenland Group in Norway. There was a tie for third place between L.S. Soo of Hyundai Engineering and Haibo Zheng of Chinergy. Congratulations to the winners, and look for videos on these automations soon. 

2010 Golden Valve Awards Desktop Calendar Wallpaper available for downloading

The Q3 versions of the 2010 Golden Valve Awards Computer Desktop Calendar are available for downloading. Select your favorite winning image of the third quarter:

Webinar to explain how rules-based design acts as safety 'watch dog'

Rules-based design is a “watch dog” that can help build better, safer plants, offshore structures, and ships. Rules-based design can incorporate safety rules and considerations into the design system. It also can facilitate a more error-free design thus eliminating late, sometimes poorly documented modifications often made onsite during construction.

In the next installment of the GetSmart! Webinar Series, the rules-based design capability in SmartPlant 3D and SmartMarine 3D (collectively known as Smart 3D) will be highlighted. The capability is a top differentiator to traditional design systems.

This webinar will feature several prominent examples of how rules-based design can help to increase Safety in the Engineering Enterprise, including area classification, explosion analysis, access and spacing management, and containment design.

CNPCCEI wins top honors in 2010 Golden Valve Awards competition

China Petroleum Construction & Engineering Corp. East-China Design Branch (CNPCCEI) has been awarded “Best of Show” in the annual Intergraph Golden Valve Awards competition for the company’s detailed view of the CNPC Guanqxi Branch refinery, the top refinery base in China. The image, created using  
Intergraph’s 3D and visualization solutions, depicts the sun setting on China’s largest refinery with an annual capacity of 10 million tons.

The Golden Valve Awards competition is sponsored by Intergraph and is open to all SmartPlant and SmartMarine Enterprise engineering design software users. The winners were announced at the Intergraph Greater China Users’ Conference in Shanghai, China. CNPCCEI’s submission won over the more than 150 entries in this year’s competition, an increase of more than 90 percent over last year’s entries.
